October is a great time to be outside, especially if you’re going pumpkin picking! It’s a lovely way to spend a beautiful fall day.

Here are some tips for a successful pumpkin picking outing

The best time to go is on an overcast day so the ground doesn’t get too dry and dusty, but bare in mind that if you go after it has been raining then the pumpkin patch can be very muddy.

Fill up your water bottle before you leave and wear comfortable shoes.

Depending on the weather, bring hats and sunscreen, or wellies and umbrellas.

Bring cash with you because some farms don’t accept card payments.

And of course, don’t forget to take pictures of all your pumpkins!

1. Avon Valley country park

Once again Avon Valley is back with an ample pumpkin patch which even novelty items like a pumpkin canon. A pumpkin festival from Oct 2-31 offers music, food, spooky actors and all things seasonal. Fair ground rides will also go down a treat with your kiddies.

2. Puxton park

Puxton park has a pumpkin patch which is free to enter. Just pay for the pumpkin You select. You can then if course pay entry if you want to have a day out at puxton park itself, which is one of our favourite places for families in the Bristol area so do try it out if you haven’t been. The patch is open on weekends and the school half term holidays.

3. Farringtons farm

Farringtons has a great pumpkin patch with a few extras so you can make a day of it. Pumpkin carving, tractor rides, story times and of course the farringtons playbarn. The farm shop will be selling pumpkin soup and pumpkin spice latte for you to enjoy.

4. Noahs ark zoo farm

Pumpkin fest 9-31 October.
This involves a pumpkin hunt. Children can take part in the farm’s Pumpkin Mystery trail with the chance to win some prizes.
Of course all the wild animals are also there to enjoy.

Let’s take a look at some tips on selecting the perfect pumpkin and keeping it fresh for carving!

If storing outside, keep your pumpkin in a dry shady spot. A covered porch is ideal.
